The Layers of Perfumes
Perfumes perform their function in layers. Immediately after you apply the perfume, you will notice the scent of the first layer. This fades quite rapidly but gives you your first impression of the perfume. The next layer is refered to as the middle layer. This is the smell created by the perfume as it mellows and reacts with your body chemistry or your skin. You will notice this layer of perfume about thirty minutes after applying the scent. The base is the last layer you will notice as you wear the perfume. This richer scent is the main theme of the perfume and it blends with the middle layer. This scent is more readily observed after more than 30 minutes have elasped. Until the scent has reached this layer, you cannot be sure the perfume is something that you will actually like and will compliment you as a person.
