Add an entertainment center with TV, movies on DVD, and Video Games to your Toyota motorhome.
Can't see the 5 inch black and white tv? Do you really need all this in your Toyota motorhome? Well, we found that rainy days, really hot days under the air conditioner, and cold evenings are more fun with some electronics. My spouse and I love to watch movies. We usually carry 20 or 30 of our favorite DVDs along in our Toyota motorhome. They fit nicely into a single CD case and are stored in one of the over head compartments. We first tried to use one of the portable dvd players with the 7 inch screen. This worked, sort of, but left a lot to be desired if more than one of us wanted to watch the movie. Another of our passions is playing video games. We both like to travel with some of our favorite games and systems. As an aside, if you are a member of AARP and haven't tried video games because they are a "kid's toy" you are missing out. Video games provide a wonderful diversion from the usual tv fare and do wonders for keeping your hand and eye coordination sharp. On one lengthy trip, we found a a 15 inch LCD flat panel tv that was reasonably priced. The prices on these small tvs have come down greatly in the last year. Although they are still higher than the 9 inch CRT tv they offer much better viewing area, reduced travel weight, and better portability. They also operate off of a 12 power source. We added one to replace the 5 inch b&w tv we had been using and have enjoyed it a great deal. I built a simple box to set the tv up at a reasonable height as well as keep it out of the way of our every day activities. It is constructed out of 1/8 inch luan plywood from the Home Depot center. It measures 11 inches wide, 5 inches high, and 7 inches deep. the side facing out is left open. One side of the box has a cutout which allows the power and video cables to reach the playstation console. Inside the box is the Playstation 2 slim line model. This model of game console has full functionality in a miniature package. It will play DVD movies, Music CDs and Playstation Games. A wireless game controller functions as a DVD remote as well as a game control. The bungee cord fastens around the back of the tv pedestal. This removes any danger of the tv taking a tumble if it is bumped. When we are traveling, the tv is placed face down on the cab over bed where it rides safely and is not visible from the outside if we are parked and away from the camper. The tv connects to the antenna system with a push on connector. It is a simple matter to set the tv on the shelf, hook up the power cable and the antenna cable and snap the bungee cord around the back. This takes less time than to raise and orient the tv antenna. The power supplies for the tv and the playstation are stored in the storage box mounted on the wall next to the tv shelf. The box is large enough for both supplies and keeps them out of the way. We enjoy the enhanced entertainment that this type of system adds to our Toyota motorhome
